Jaguar’s EV Gamble May Have Cost It More Than Anyone Knew


 Jaguar’s EV reset may have cost the brand more than most people realized. According to Car and Driver, former Jaguar design director Ian Callum said replacements for the XF, XJ, F-Type, and F-Pace were already in the works before they were scrapped to make way for Jaguar’s radical new EV direction. He also said Jaguar had created “quite a lot of new Jaguars” that were ultimately abandoned, and Car and Driver notes the company has not launched a new model since 2018. Callum praised the boldness of the Type 00 concept, but argued that Jaguars still need to be beautiful. That’s what makes this story so compelling: Jaguar didn’t just change course, it appears to have thrown away a large part of its near-future lineup to do it.
